Soil Water Deficits in HRM

For most of the year in Nova Scotia, precipitation exceeds evapotranspiration (the loss of water by evaporation from soil and from leaf surfaces), and plant growth is rarely limited by lack of water. During the mid-summer, however, evapotranspiration usually exceeds precipitation and the soil water is drawn down. The red-filled area shows the period of soil water deficit.
